tell me not to panic

Okay. This is why they tell you not to pee on a stick before your beta.

Don't panic (this is my personal mantra today) - I don't think it's bad news. Necessarily. But then again, I'm the panicky sort, especially around any potential pregnancy stuff.

So, I peed on a stick (HYPOTHETC...oh, screw it, I did it) again this morning. And yes, there is definitely a second line - still fainter than the control line, but there. I don't have to squint to see it. It's there.

But it's not darker than yesterday's line. I don't think it's lighter, but it's a little hard to tell because a.) yesterday's test is now dry, so you can't really compare and b.) I tend to panic and assume the worst. It looks about the same as yesterday, from what I can tell. Also, it's one of those Dollar Store tests, so it's probably not the most sensitive thing in the world.

That's not terribly bad, is it? I've been trying to take a photo of the damn thing for the past fifteen minutes, and I SUCK at this (I don't know how y'all get those nice, clear photos of these tiny things!), but here's my best shot:

You know, now that I look at it, it might be a little darker than yesterday. Maybe. I know you can't tell, but I didn't take a photo of yesterday's, and now it's way too late for that. And the line is actually a little clearer than it appears in the photo (again: I have no pee-stick-photo skills). Anyway, it's there. Right? I'm mostly posting this so I can look at it during the day and assure myself that it's real, that I didn't dream that second line.

But I'll feel a hundred times better if it gets darker tomorrow.

  2. Don't panic! That looks like a very convincing second line to me! I don't have my pee stick pictures handy b/c I'm at work, but that looks about like what I remember. Stay cautiously optimistic!

  3. That's definitely a second pink line. I bet it'll get darker every day from now on. Girl, you're pregnant! Take a moment and smile :)
Keeping my fingers crossed for perfectly rising betas and a textbook pregnancy!

  4. That's a definite line. No second guessing it here! Congratulations!!!!!

  5. You're going to panic no matter what we say, but I hope that this may help ease your mind a bit.

I remember feeling the same way and being a little freaked that the line wasn't noticeably darker from one day to the next.

Open these up in separate windows so you can compare them.

    This is 8dp5dt: http://pics.livejournal.com/somehowsomeway/pic/00004s90/g5

    These are 8dp, 10dp and 12dp:

If you compare 8dp in the first pic to 10dp in the second pic, they totally look just about the same - though 10dp is slightly more defined, especially in the picture because I figured out how to take it by that point.

(To take a better picture, set your camera on the macro setting, turn off the flash and find some good natural light.)

Girl - you're pregnant! Woo hoo!

  6. A line is a line. I wouldn't trust the relative sensitivity of two dollar store tests.

    A line!!! Hooray!!

  7. I would (being the freak I am) probably panic, too. But I remember with my pregnancies being surprised that the line did NOT necessarily get much darker.

I would also be CAUTIOUSLY EXCITED! :)

  8. that is definitely positive! My lines didn't change from day to day...in fact, I think the 2nd day of poas was slightly lighter than the first day of poas. I am now 17 weeks. I think the amount of dye in each test can be different too rendering different results. The sticks are just meant for positive/negative....nothing else. Congratulations!

  9. Don't panic. You're knocked up.

BTW, I think Pee Sticks are the devil and I won't touch one.

  10. I peed on several sticks AFTER getting a positive beta (c'mon, how could I resist a sure thing?), and one of them got lighter from one day to the next. I wouldn't put too much stock in it.

  11. I just want to say that I love all of you.

  12. Couldn't add anything here that hasn't already been said, and I agree with everyone. Just wondering though - did you use the same brand yesterday and today?

  13. I see the line too. I say you're pregnant, and just to put your mind at ease.... When I was almost 5 months pregnant I began cramping and thought I was miscarrying (it was actually pre-term labor and I didn't know it) so I bought a pee stick and peed on it to compare lines with photos of ones from when I found out. That line wasn't nearly as dark in those pics as the first ones were and I had much higher levels. I now have a 2 1/2yr old son. Can't wait to hear your beta results, but I'm still saying it's positive, and CONGRATS are in order. But I'll continue to keep my fingers crossed for ya.

Oh and another way to get a clear shot of the preg test on your camera is if you have a text shot setting. Put it on that to take the pic, with some good natural light.

  14. A line is a line is a line = pregnant. Don't squabble too much over darkness, it really is more an issue of how diluted your pee is, especially this early in the game. Try not to panic, because you need to prepare for the celebrating on Friday. :)

  15. I agree with others...it's a line and you ARE pregnant! Enjoy, mama!!!!

  16. That's definitely a line! I won't tell you not to panic, because it's a little impossible at times like this, but it sure looks good from here. Here's hoping the beta day gets here quickly and with great news.

  17. Looks like a positive to me. This isn't the ovulation prediction kit where the line has to be darker than the control line. That is clearly a positive HCG!

  18. That is a line girl! BTW, you totally set me off onto the POAS mania. I was doing great not thinking about it until I saw that you got a positive! I am only one day behind you so the mania turned ON! lol. :) I am crossing my fingers for you.

  20. congrats!!!! I'd say you are most def preggers!!! My last 5preg test (took five, because the line was ALWAYS faint, like yours, resulted in a beautiful 6lb 7oz BG 33weeks later! )

  21. My first line was super faint and I read the pamphlet and it said that any line indicates a positive pregnancy test, no matter how faint. I can not wait for your beta!

  22. That's definitely a line! Yippeee!!!!! Congratulations!!!!

  23. That's the real deal. Not even a "hmm, could be a faint shadow of something." Great job!
