two steps forward, one step back

I knew there would be setbacks in this process.

Today's was the first - and hopefully, if not last, at least the worst: turns out I can't participate in the progesterone drug study after all (damn endometriosis - again), so I will, in fact, be doing the glorious progesterone-in-oil shots I've heard so much about.  These things are legendary.  I'm not excited.

I thought about the big-ass needle, and then I thought about my poor ass, and I wanted to cry.  But then I thought, I'll only have to do these for eight weeks if I am, in fact, pregnant - and that's got to be some consolation, right?

On the good news front, I have an appointment with a new acupuncturist who's both closer to home and a fertility specialist.  Very excited about that.

Onward and upward.

  1. The PIO shots didn't bother me too much. The first one I had to give myself in my leg because hubby was out of town and that one hurt like hell and left a lovely little bruise. He took over after that. I would lean over on the bathroom counter, putting all my weight on the opposite leg and as long as he didn't stick me too high, I barely felt them. (That's not to say that after a couple of weeks I wasn't bruised and tender, but I've felt worse pain than that as well.)

Anyway, good luck! Try not to be too paranoid about them... I really think the key is to be as relaxed as possible during the shot so hopefully that will help you not have any pain!

  2. oh the PIO... indeed I don't miss those.
The shots don't hurt much. But for me, the effect was cumulative. I got bad bruises (I actually still have marks 8 weeks after stopping the shots), soreness and a delayed allergic reaction.
But most people don't experiences all of these bad effects. I guess just got 'lucky'.
OH, by the way, because I'm sort of small and muscular, I got a smaller needle. Instead of the 1 1/2 inch, I got a 1' for the shot. It made a world of difference in my case.
It was good to have DH involved.
Some women told me to warm up the oil with a heating pad before the injection. I also left the pad on top of my butt for a few minutes afterwards.
Good luck with the new acupuncturist. :)
